Clinician Scientist Annual Meeting 2011
In 2011, the CSFP Annual Meeting was part of the celebrations of the Tercentenary of the foundation of the Trinity College Dublin School of Medicine. It took place on 1 July in the stimulating surroundings of the Science Gallery, Trinity College Dublin.
The meeting format comprised four sessions containing 14 oral research presentations by MMI Clinician Scientist Fellows, with each session chaired by an MMI Fellow. There were also opportunities to view 19 posters submitted by other medical graduates undertaking PhD studies in the MMI partner institutions. Over 70 people attended the meeting.
Professor Dermot Kelleher (Vice-Provost of Medical Affairs, Head of the TCD School of Medicine and MMI Director) awarded prizes for oral and poster presentations and commented, “the presentations today were of very high quality, and the cohort of MMI Clinician Scientist Fellows now concluding their PhD studies will play key roles in patient-directed research. They are an excellent demonstration of the value of a collaborative systematic training programme supported by PRTLI funding.”
MMI Clinician Scientist Fellow Dr Sanjay Chotirmall, based in RCSI, was awarded the MMI Medal for his oral presentation ‘Estrogen in Cystic Fibrosis: Inflammatory, Immune and Infectious Consequences’. Dr Jane McGrath (TCD) was awarded second prize for her oral presentation ‘Neural Connectivity in Autism Spectrum Disorders’. Third prize went to Dr David Pritchard (TCD) for his presentation ‘Integrin Expression is Modulated by Deoxycholic Acid in Squamous Oesophageal Epithelium and May Have a Role in the Aetiology of Barrett’s Oesophagus’.
