A group of six young Irish science enthusiasts left Dublin on 20 June to travel to Turin, the European City of Science in 2010, to take part in the city's science celebrations between 2 - 7 July. They are travelling on a specially commissioned Science Communications Bus and will stop off at scientific landmarks in cities such as Liverpool, Amsterdam and Brussels on their outward journey and Toulouse and Barcelona on their return.  The main purpose of the trip is to promote Dublin's selection as the European City of Science in 2012 in each of the cities that they visit.  

The six young people, who were selected out of 50 applicants, will chart their progress and experiences across Europe using blogs and other forms of  social interactive mediums such as Twitter and You Tube. They will also highlight the quality and excellence of the Irish scientists and engineers whom they meet on their journey. 

The trip is co-funded by Discover Science and Engineering, Fáilte Ireland, Dublin City Council and the Office of the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Government and is expected to cost up to €130,000. However, the expected return in tourism value could run into millions, according to the organisers.
