MMI seeks a Chief Executive

Date Posted: 19 Jul 2012

Molecular Medicine Ireland is seeking a Chief Executive to replace Dr Ruth Barrington who retires from the post at the end of September. Dr Barrington has been Chief Executive of MMI since October 2007. ‘It has been a great privilege to assist the MMI partner institutions in building collaborative research programmes and in laying the foundations of a sustainable national system for translational and clinical research’ Dr Barrington commented. ‘Many challenges lie ahead but MMI has demonstrated for over 10 years that it fosters research collaboration and innovation in the national interest’ she added. She thanked the Board and the staff of MMI for the support that she had received during her time as Chief Executive.

Tom Lynch, Chairman of Molecular Medicine Ireland, thanked Ruth on behalf of the Board for her contribution to MMI over the past five years and especially for her great contribution to public policy in healthcare research in Ireland not just in MMI but previously as CEO of the Health Research Board. ‘On a personal note, Ruth's insights and deep knowledge of public policy in Ireland have been invaluable. I wish her every success in her future endeavours’ he added.

The position of Chief Executive was advertised in the business section of The Irish Times on Friday 20 July (http://www.molecularmedicineireland.ie/show/item/3/1846) and the Board hopes to make an appointment as soon as possible.

MMI is seeking a new Chief Executive with a strong commitment to building Ireland’s capacity to conduct clinical and translational research through collaboration. The successful candidate will have strong understanding and experience of the biomedical research landscape at a strategic level in Ireland and internationally. He or she will have a proven track record in effective leadership, excellent interpersonal, influencing and networking skills and be clinically attuned and familiar with the challenges of translational medicine. An attractive remuneration package is available.
