Biography: Dr. Lance A. Liotta is a professor of life sciences at George Mason University, Manassas, VA and co-director of the University’s Center for Applied Proteomics and Molecular Medicine. He also serves as medical director of the George Mason University/Inova Health System Clinical Proteomics Laboratory in the George Mason University/Inova Health System Translational research Centres. Before joining the George Mason faculty in 2005, Dr. Liotta was chief of the Laboratory of Pathology at the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Centre for Cancer Research, and also headed the Center's Tumor Invasion and Metastases section. He previously served as deputy director for Intramural Research at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Liotta earned his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University, and is licenced to practice medicine in the State of Maryland. He also holds a doctoral degree in biomedical engineering from Case Western Reserve University. Lance Liotta has been a strong supporter of the NCI-Ireland / Northern Ireland Cancer Consortium: he has hosted Irish visiting scientists on collaborative projects and Irish physician-scientists have carried out their PhD work to completion in his laboratory. This is Lance Liotta’s second visit to Ireland.
